MailMania4 - the 4th biannual mail art show hosted here in my home town of Victoria, BC Canada is coming soon. I mailed in the following 10 postcards that spell out - MailMania4.
I started by taking photographs of letters (and the number 4) around town. I cropped them all and then printed them on inkjet transparency. I applied gesso to 10 vintage bingo cards, stamped some background images around the edges with Stayz-on ink, and then attached the transparencies with gloss gel medium. Next I added paint (liquid acrylics from Golden), then stamped some polka-dots in contrasting colours and then finished up with a bit of gold paint.
The first "M" from a museum (obviously)!
This is the "A" from the "Welcome to Victoria" sign made out of flowers that sits in our Inner Harbour.
Next we have an "I" from a local Bingo hall.
An "L" from a local drugstore.
Next "M" from a local fast food restaurant - bet you can't guess which one!
This "A" is from these neat old tiles that are set into the sidewalk on the waterfront that announce the street names.
This "N" is from a local theater.
An "I" from a Visitor Information Centre (another obvious one!).
"A" is for "Artisan" - the provincial government used to offer these signs to point the way to local artists. Although the ones that have been there for awhile are still there, sadly I don't think this program is available any more.
Last but not least, the number 4, which marks the 4th floor of a local parkade.
I had a lot of fun with this project, and look forward to the show.

How cool is that idea! I'm sure people will appreciate the effort you made going out and photographing each letter. Printing them on transparency is a cool idea too.

This is ONE clever grouping. It's always fun to see what you come up with for your entry each year. I also enjoyed your description of how you created these.

This is amazing Cindy! I love that you found different A's to use each time and that of course, you used your trademark Bingo cards.

Neat idea! I was in a swap last year wherein we photographed letters to spell out "create" and "friend." We only exchanged photos, but what a cool idea to collage them! LOVE that.
Thanks so much for your nice comment about my technique tags! I'm anxious to see how yours turn out; you always do such beautiful work. (Did I tell you I got one of your flags in Helga's swap? It's awesome!!!)
