Chunky Book Pages

I haven't participated in a chunky book swap for ages.  I love the 4" x 4" size, and always love to see what everyone does with the same theme and/or colour scheme.  The ARTchix Studio Sister Site Yahoo Group is having a fun chunky swap based on colours.  Each month we mail off 3 pages and get 3 back, and each month is based on a different colour combination.  This month is based on Pink and Orange - who could resist?  I made all of mine the same(ish), so I'm only showing one, front and back.  I also made one to keep, which is fun.  This is a low pressure swap compared to those huge chunky projects that were so popular a few years ago!  If you're a fan of ARTchix Studio, you are welcome to join the group and join in the fun!  All images (except butterfly) are from ARTchix!

Here's the front.  In person, the "wheels" are stamped with hot pink paint!  I have no idea why they look yellow - maybe it's reflective?  Those "wheels" are stamped with a circle of plastic needlepoint canvas that I picked up from Ruby Dog's Art House in Vancouver last weekend.  If you're ever in Vancouver, don't forget to stop by - Leann has the coolest stuff!

Sunday Postcard Art - Double Take

This week, the theme for Sunday Postcard Art is "Double Take".  Use the same image twice on the same postcard.  I chose this rather serious little boy from Paper Whimsy.  I thought he looked wistful, and imagined he might be daydreaming about flying.

Sunday Postcard Art - Hearts

New Collage on Canvas - Renewal

I have been offline for a whole week with computer problems.  They are all fixed now, but it sure takes awhile to get everything back to normal.  Here is a canvas I made for a friend over the weekend.

 
The top left and bottom right corner is light molding past stenciled through sequin waste, so it's very textured. 

Valentine ATCs

Today was the local Victoria ATC Trade (if you're in Victoria, either a resident or just visiting, remember to drop by the first Sunday of every month).  I made some Valentine ATCs:

The first were done with crackle paste that I've had for awhile but hadn't done anything with. After painting and stamping the background on canvas paper I mixed some magenta paint with the past and made a heart stencil and applied the past through the stencil.  The next part was the hardest - let them dry without poking or prodding them for three days!  I had a bit of breakage, but that was easily resolved with a bit of gel medium.  I gave them a wash of burnt umber mixed with glazing medium which filled in the cracks nicely and made the hearts look a little less like a certain pink stomach remedy.  After that was dry I sealed with more gel medium.  Unfortunately the scans a bit blurry because they are so dimensional, but you get the idea.

This next series was done using a background of Quinacridone Magenta paint and then stamped with a handwriting stamp.  I then glued strips of paper down and when that was dry I cut them into heart shapes.  I finished them off by stenciling a bit of gold paint through a piece of sequin waste.

 

These I left heart shaped.  I made some similar ones at the trade today but mounted them onto a background of old sheet music, ledger paper and page from a Chinese magazine.  Unfortunately I don't have any of those ones to show as they were all traded by the end of the session.

RPM - Deluge Art Gallery

Deluge Contemporary Art in Victoria BC is having their annual fundraiser:  RPM - The Lost Art of LP Covers.  Local artists create a piece of art using an LP cover (or covers in some cases), donate it to the gallery, and the gallery sells each piece for the low price of $45.  Everybody wins.  Opening night is February 18, and the show closes on March 5. I am submitting a piece I did using an old 78 album.

Basically the book has all my favourite sad songs in it.  Not that I'm particularly sad - I just think they make more interesting subject matter.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out and hope it finds a good home.
