I’ve decided to embark on a new project. I didn’t take this lightly, and in fact only decided at the 11th hour on New Year’s Eve (no I wasn’t drinking). Two lovely and talented artists i Hanna (see here post Here) and Tammy from Daisy Yellow have come up with a flexible 365-day challenge for 2018. You don’t have to complete one a day, and the things make could be anything (e.g. collages, short stories, paintings, postcards, index cards, etc.). And when I say it doesn’t have to be daily, for example you could sit down every Sunday and do 7 for the week. As always, best you read i Hanna’s post if interested as I am not always the best at explaining these things.
For my challenge, I have chosen 365 Hearts. Hearts seem to keep showing up in my work and because I’ve picked hearts, rather than a media I can be super flexible with how I complete the challenge. On some days I could decide to just cut out a heart from fancy paper (or not fancy) and add a word (or not) or some doodling. On other days I might make a postcard or canvas. Also this will fit with ICAD in the summer. And if things get really hairy I can add a teeny heart doodle to something I’m working on and count it. But the idea is at the end of 2018 I will have 365 hearts completed in some shape or form, and documented in this space.
Here’s my first card (created on a granola bar box). It was lying on my work table with the background and heart completed - a UFO (UnFinished Object). This fits with some of my other 2018 creative goals - finish more unfinished objects, don’t buy a bunch of supplies (use what’s on hand). I’m also planning to get my work ‘out there’ more frequently locally this year. Last year I participated in three shows and put forward my work to one juried show (which I was not selected for). This year I hope to participate in at least five shows.
Don’t expect to see daily posts from me - I suspect I will do a weekly roundup as with ICAD. Although sometimes I might sneak an extra one or two in there.
I look forward to seeing what you make throughout the year. I totally understand no daily posts....sometimes it's hard to even get a weekly post in for me. :) I\

I went to Hanna's blog and LOVE her collages. I wanted to do hearts, too, which often show up in my ICADs, but I think I'd like to try my luck at collage after seeing what Hanna makes. I also like the idea that I can sit down and create two or three at a time, rather than the restrictive one a day. Much more freeing. So, I'm going to join YOU and Hanna this year. I need to get busy, though, since I'm going to need the extra time to prepare for the project.
I adore your theme and love this first heart. It's so YOU. And I love that you have started with recycled materials, too. Keep them coming, dear friend. Of course, if I start this, your birthday gift might get put on hold even longer (grin).

I took the plunge and will be joining you in this project. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can handle.

So happy you're joining us in this, and with such a beautiful symbol too, the heart means so much to me.
Happy New Creative Year!
Happy #365somethings2018

Happy New year! You are off to a fabulous creative journey for 2018 and I love that you have set more artistic goals for yourself too. Love your theme of hearts as it is an image that recurs in my art quite often also. Looking forward to seeing your creations.

This is a great idea. I read the link about the project, and I'm thinking of doing it, but also thinking I might not be able to make 365 somethings. (I wish I saw the project post back on Dec 21, to have more time to think about it. I feel like tomorrow being Jan 7, I'm on the cusp of being too late to start this, since I don't know what my "something" will be, and I need 7 of them by tomorrow. Hmmm...)
