This week, I went to art class! An entire weekend spent on image transfers, with local artist and instructor, Tony Bounsall. I have taken a class with Tony in the past, and what I like about his classes is that, even if he’s teaching a technique I know, he always has some tips and tricks I didn’t know before.
This first photo is my sample sheet, that shows most of the transfer techniques we used. If you can’t read my writing, from top left, clockwise, the techniques are direct gel transfer, gel skin, acrylic skin, contact paper, heat transfer, and direct gel transfer.

This next picture is of my finished piece that incorporates many of those same techniques. Such fun! Note that I used some of my own designs that I had painted on old book pages and then photo copied.

This last technique uses oil of wintergreen. I used a photocopy from an old calendar I had from a paint manufacturer. Although oil of wintergreen is quite strong smelling, it’s definitely not as unpleasant as other alternatives like acetone. Do note though that it is highly toxic to ingest, and is very dangerous for pets to ingest.

This spread is in the old shorthand book. The teal swipe of paint and the black line in that area are both part of an acrylic skin transfer. I used a black acrylic pen (Molotow brand) for the line, and was excited to see that it also transferred.

This next spread is in my new kraft journal.

These next two pages are also in the kraft journal and also feature acrylic skin transfers.

This next page is the last full spread in the old shorthand book. I have a couple of single pages to finish (inside front and back cover). Because this is such an old book, I’m going leave the covers as is - I just like them.

Next I have a random postcard made on an old box of some sort and mostly with scraps I had sitting on my table.

More collages on recycled boxes. Using up some of my gelli prints.

That’s a wrap for the week - thanks so much for joining me!
