This week’s theme for Sunday Postcard Art  is Comic Books.  This is not something I’m that familiar with so I thought I might sit this week out - but then I remembered seeing some comic book images in the book Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage so I thought I’d give it a go!

Sunday Postcard Art - Complementary Colours

I’m delighted to be hosting  Sunday Postcard Art  this week, and my theme is Complementary Colours.

Complementary colours are opposite each other on the colour wheel.  This is a simple colour wheel - they make them in many different gradations.  I don’t want you to stress over whether your colours are exactly complementary!  Just have fun.  

I made two cards with two different sets of complementary colours.  The first one features orange-red and blue-green.  

The second features green-gold and pink.

I like the way the black and white images play against the colours - you might think black and white would be complimentary colours but they do not appear on the colour wheel at all.

This week’s theme for Sunday Postcard Art  is Birdcage.  I had to grab this stamp from Invoke Arts as it is one of my favourites!  I stamped it over a gelli print and added som other collage elements and marks.

Sunday Postcard Art - Forest

This week’s theme for Sunday Postcard Art is Forest.

I started out trying an image transfer with my gelli plate.  It didn’t work out quite the way I’d planned so I decided to take a different approach.  Just drawing a silhouette over a map and adding a big red moon or sun from a print I made a few weeks ago.

Then I had second thoughts about the “failed” print.  When I looked at it again I saw the forest - do you see it too?  Or did I just imagine it because I wanted to see it? Either way, I’ve set up one of my little paper houses on the edge of the forest.

More square collages

Today I’m showing the rest of my square collages from August, as well as into the first week of September.

I started out with these vintage phones that I found in an old ad in an old New Yorker magazine.

I just love the colours!

I thought that floral washi paper reminded me of old wallpaper.

The last four collages have me revisiting previous themes - birds, butterflies, houses…
